Curry Gardenn @ Turf City

On Tuesday this week, we realized so many of our colleagues were on leave. 'Wire' our colleague noticed something else, all the anti-Indian food colleagues are all on leave! That leaves us, all the Indian food lovers a chance to hunt for some delicious Indian food.

So, he suggested that we should all go try this Indian food place at Turf City. It was only 4 of us, so we hailed a cab to Turf City.

We ate at Curry Gardenn (yes, double n). This place is actually opened by an IT guy! Yes, the boss Mr Udaya Kumar is a .Net programmer! But he leave the running of the business to his brother Ravi.

While we sat down and waited for our food, papa dams were served. If you are wondering, it's free flow. ;-)

The masala chicken that we had. It's also their signature dish. Delicious.

The spinach. Take your veg guys.

And the chick peas. This is quite yummy!

With our beautiful super long grain rice! The portion of rice is a bit small, so you might need seconds.

The main reason we are here. For the fish head! Curry Gardenn's signature dish.

The fish head is cooked without coconut milk, so it might taste a bit different from the usual fish head. No MSG added too. The fish head is only cooked when you order it, so you got to wait. Our wait was around 20 mins wait. By the time it came, we already finished whatever is shown above. LOL

The fish head comes bubbling hot in the claypot. See the steam! If you notice, you can see the curry bubbling too. :-)

It's a whole fish head. The curry is on the sweetish side. Today's fish had some slight fishy smell though. Wire said it is usually better on other days.

But is sure was tasty though. We finish every single bit of it. Even the gravy was not spared. LOL...

While we were eating our food, the next table had 4 angmoh kids eating Roti Tisu. It was so huge and tempting that when we finished our food, we ordered one to try too. We enjoyed it as much as the kids did too.

That's Ravi at the cash register. ;-)

Another satisfying Indian lunch. All of the above, rice at 6 portions, plus 4 drinks cost $46.
Think the fish head is $16.

Lunch @ NUS Engineering Canteen

Oh.. we realise that food prices have gone up in all the canteens in NUS! Prices have gone up between 20-50 cents depending on the food and stalls.

But I guess it's still one of the affordable places to eat for people working in NUS/NUH/Science Parks I & II.

Haha.. I went to the Indian Stall again today, in fact 2 other colleagues did too. This is my lunch for $2. I was full, but colleagues still felt like eating. LOL.

So we went to have our regular calcium break behind the canteen. Oh no! The sundae machine's not working today. Then when our colleague asked for Lemon Lime, it's out of stock too! Aiyo, what happened?

So we ended up having fries and orange juice / coke instead.
A colleague who pumped the tomato sauce and we all thought it looked like a lump of xxxx. LOL

Yes, lunch time is also creativity juice time for my colleagues.

Two larges fries all poured into the serving tray. It seems that is the way we eat it. Do you all do the same? ;-)

In your opinion, which fast food has the best fries? We think it's Macdonald's.

Indian Food @ NUS Engineering Canteen

Last day in Darwin now. Wondering what we have eaten and visited in Darwin? Cannot post in this blog lah. We are eating outside Singapore, so does not fit into the Singapura Daily Makan blog.

If you are wondering, we got here by Jetstar. Bought our tickets long long ago when we saw their promo prices. We will be back to regular daily postings tomorrow!

Thanks for bearing with our auto scheduled posting since 7th of June.

-------------

Many people who visits this blog has commented that I eat expensive food everyday. Actually, no. This is more like what we eat daily.

Colleagues and I are fortunate to be accessible to cheaper $2 - $3 meals that is being sold in the canteens of NUS and the surrounding.

We like the food from the Indian stall at Engineering Canteen. I love brinjals ;-)

Indian Food @ Engineering Canteen

Hmmm looks like it is going to NUS Canteens food again. Quick lunch from the Indian stall at Engineering Canteen.

Fried drumstick over rice and curry gravy.
The sides: Eggs and onions, long beans and potato, brinjals.

A simple quick meal that is cheap, but somehow makes me satisfied. I wonder if metal trays makes the difference. (knock my head! silly boy!)

Anjappar Indian Express @ FoodgleHub PGP, NUS

No, it's not Friday yet, but we had some Indian food. Colleagues and I, decided to just head down to PGP to try some other food. Everyone ate different food, but another colleague and I decide to just try out this Indian stall and see how it is.

OK it comes in compartmental plastic containers like this. This is a set meal that cost $4.50
You have 2 meats, 2 veg, 1 dessert, 1 rice, 1 naan, 1 papadam.

The taste is not too bad actually. Compared to some other, this is the chicken drumlets.

The long beans and other mix veg mix.

The chicken curry.

Whenever you see this, you think of super sweet indian desserts right?
We took one mouth, hey, it's not that sweet. We finished it. hehe..

Boleh tahan lah. I actually quite like the long grain super skinny rice. Yummy.

It seems that food places at this Foodgle Hub are "express" outlets of well known food outlets. Wonder if anyone knows this is the same as the Anjappar Authentic Chenttinaad Restaurant in Racecourse Road?

Indian Delight @ NUH Staff Canteen

I wonder how many of you correctly guessed the type of food I am having today. LOL.
Yes, it's Friday and Friday somehow becomes Indian Food Day.

We just decided to walk over to the NUH Staff Canteen today. Upon reaching, somehow 3 persons legs just brought them to the Indian Stall. I think the T has dropped down.

It's one of those stalls that serves food in metal plates that have compartments. No communal food today, we just ordered individual portions.

This is lamb from colleague's plate. Yummy? It's a bit tough, but they say it is good. 2 of them ordered lamb. I did not.

One of them also had this tauhu. So sedap looking right?

For me, I had chicken. I think it is quite nice. The food taster colleague took a tiny bit and said: "can" "pass". LOL

I had bean sprouts to go.

And I love this. Cucumber.

All of us had Nasi Briyani. For mine, it was covered with dahl curry. :-P

This Indian Stall in NUH Staff Canteen has been consistently quite good. It's average around $3.50 for the combi above.

Actually looking forward to Monday's lunch! LOL.
A colleague is planning a lunch. If we get to go, the pictures will be here. haha..

Khansama Tandoori Village @ Science Park 1

It has been a long time since we had our Friday Indian Food day. We were going to go somewhere else, when we realise two colleagues could not join us. Then it was like 'ting ting' in our heads. Hey, the two who don't like Indian food is not joining us, let's go for Indian food today!

So it was 6 of us. On our way out, our boss asked, where are you all going for lunch? We said Indian Food at Science Park. We were surprised that he said he will join us. He's the very picky and healthy eater leh. haha...

We have been here before, you can play catch up by viewing the previous makan photos here.

We have been here a few times and also took the set, somehow we decided to have communal today. So, this is what was ordered.

The Chicken Tandoori. It is very good here. For the namesake of the restaurant tandoori got to be good here!

We also had Fish Tikala. Very nice too, though a tad salty.

We wanted naan, so we ordered the assorted basket.

The other dishes we had. This is chicken curry. Can't remember the exact name. The curry for this is what I love most. :-)

Two colleagues die die must order this. Chick Peas. Actually it is quite nice.

The is the mutton curry. Marvelous too.

Make a guess. Do you know what it is?
It is very fine spinach and cheese. Our veg dish :-)

We also had the briyani rice. The rice and the naan goes superbly well with all the curries.

Maybe we might come back next month on another Friday. There's still so many things to try here. This place gets quite packed, so be there early if you have a big group.

Oh yes, our boss 'belanja-ed' us. Thanks Boss! :-)

Khansama Tandoori Village @ Science Park 1

Last Friday I was on leave, so colleagues came here, they say this place is not bad, so today the 3 that came last week became 5 of us. Yes, all Indian food lovers.

This place is a very interesting. You see lots of interesting deco. This is right at the door. There are more, but I did not take other photos.

All of us settled for set meals. There are 3 non veg and 3 veg ones.
I think you all can guess which ones we took.

This is how the set meals all arrived. It comes with rice and 1 naan, and 1 crispy crispy piece of I don't know what its called! haha..

This is the chicken set. The first bowl was the chicken curry, then the peas whatever that is really really yummy!

The next to it was the chickpeas curry. Next to it, the yoghurt thingy. On the most right, the dessert.

This is the mutton set.

This is the fish set that I had.

Last Friday, they ordered tandoori, so this week, we ordered something else. Sorry, can't remember the name of this. (will update it when I find out from colleague who ordered it).

But the chicken was good!

We also ordered an extra Mix Bread Basket, which consist of:
1 Plain Naan, 1 Garlic Naan, 1 cheese Naan 1 Butter Naan & 1 Tandoori Roti

As usual, just take a photo of the details, so you know where to go.

Their website lists out the full menu. We are thinking of going back again next Friday to try out more stuff. We were admiring other things that other tables ordered. haha...

(You might wonder why Friday? We usually go out for lunch in a group, but lots of people are clearing their annual leave slowly, and our "i no touch indian food" colleagues seems to be taking Fridays off till the end of the year. haha.... we happy, they also happy.)

Mumtaz Mahal @ Far East Plaza

Colleagues and I, we were suppose to have Jap food in Far East Plaza but it was so full and had a long wait. We decided to go elsewhere. A colleague's nose brought us here. He smell from the kitchen earlier while walking in from the carpark that the naan was heavenly!

So we decided to venture into this shop. It's called Mumtaz Mahal. The place is very dimly lighted and I did not want to use flash much, so the pictures are a bit dark and grainy here.

We ordered the set meals. I had the Quantas Set, while the rest had Tandoori Chicken Set.

We were served this. Think it is called Lacha Pratha. Tandoori bread made of wheat and wholemeal flour.

It comes with this container of 4 things. The one behind is some chopped onions plus something mix. The one of the left is mint. The one on the right is something very very sweet, its some kind of jam we think. The front one was bitterish something.

We ordered Indian Tea Tarik. We thought we would want to try something different.
We were served empty cups on our table. Huh? We thought. How are they going to tarik the tea? (tried to upload a video of the guy coming with a pot of tea and tarik the tea in front of us using the new blogger tool, but it failed. aiya)

My Quantas Set arrived. We found out that it's actually the same thing as the what my colleagues ordered! haha.. Except mine came in individual portions. Here's the tandoori. We all think it is absolutely delicious. It is very moist and not dry at all and full of taste.

This is the Nasi Briyani. Very good too.

This is the mutton curry. We finished every drop of the curry.

This is some yogurt thingy. For this, I only had a few scoop. Such a big bowl. Help!

This is some dahl thingy that was very tasty too. The other set did not have this, only the Quantas set.

This is curry veg, it's very frozen mix veg tasting. haha... Coz it was carrots, peas, etc...

This was how it appeared in front of me, with my chicken being nibbled already.

If you ordered the Tandoori set, it's almost similar, but served in a metal container, what we call hostel style. hehe..

Yup, it came with this naan that was delicious. Those bits are garlic and for garlic lovers, it is yummmmmm... How did the various curry and sauces finished? It was wiped off with this naan.

This was served after they empty our tables. Another set of metal containers with 3 things. In front is sugar coated cumin seeds, the left it is cardamon seeds and the third one rock sugar.

We were taught how to eat the cardamom, we are suppose to peel off the husk and eat the black seeds inside. Both the cardamom and cumin taste so good! Our mouth did not smell of curry after!

After that mango ice cream came. I ate the cumin with the ice cream in my mouth. Good combi!

The damage? See for yourself hehe...

Damaged was picked up by this senior colleague. He said it is his treat. Thanks Mr T.
One thing we laughed at was the bottom of the receipt. It told us to exercise regularly!
